Dr. Juan Arias

Dr. Juan W. Arias was born in Mexico City where he attended the National Autonomous University of Mexico, graduated with a Doctor in Medicine degree. He finished a Post graduate Internship in Canada and moved to the USA. Completed a residency in Obstetrics and Gynecology at Wesson Women’s Hospital in Springfield, MA. He then moved to Texas where he finished his training in Maternal/Fetal medicine at the University of Texas in Houston. He stayed as an assistant professor for two years and moved to Dallas where he practiced for more than 30 years with Methodist Dallas Medical Center. Has been working at LBUCC as volunteer for approximately 20 years and became part time physician at the OB/GYN division at LBUCC since 2019. He is married and has 4 children. He enjoys the outdoor activities and his family.

Jennifer Musharbash, NP

Nurse Practitioner, Jennifer grew up in Paris, Texas, and she moved to the DFW area in 2008. She attended the University of Texas at Arlington, where she earned her undergraduate degree in nursing. She later attended Texas Woman's University, where she earned her graduate degree in Family Nurse Practitioner Studies. In 2012 she completed a Medical/Surgical Nursing Fellowship at Parkland Hospital. She is board certified by the American Academy of Nurse Practitioners. She has experience caring for patients in a variety of settings, including Internal Medicine, Family Medicine, Urgent Care and Hospice.  She joined the LBU family in 2023.

Dr. Kathleen Moore

Dr. Moore is certified by the American Board of Pediatrics and is a fellow of the American Academy of Pediatrics. She attended medical school at the University of New Mexico School of Medicine and completed her Pediatrics residency at the University of Kentucky. She completed the clinical portion of a fellowship in Pediatric Hematology Oncology at the Children’s Medical Center in Dallas as well as additional training in bone marrow transplantation in Seattle.  Ultimately, she returned to her first love, the care of children in a general pediatrics setting and had a private practice in Tyler, Texas for many years.  A move to Dallas allowed Dr. Moore to join LBU Community Clinic.

Dr. Kinjal Patel

Dr. Kinjal Patel is double board certified in Adult Psychiatry and Child & Adolescent Psychiatry. She is from Arizona and completed her adult psychiatry residency at University of Arizona. She moved to Dallas to complete her child and adolescent psychiatry fellowship at UT Southwestern. Dr. Patel’s mission is to provide mental health consultation and treatment for all ages in a safe and compassionate environment.  She enjoys spending time with her family, traveling and cooking.

Dr. Christopher Choat

Dr. Christopher Choat is the Compliance Officer of LBU Community Clinic.  An optometrist in practice since 2002, he received his Doctor of Optometry degree from Nova Southeastern University in Fort Lauderdale, Florida in 2002. Dr. Choat joined LBU in August of 2015 as staff optometrist and Compliance Officer.

Prior to joining LBU, Dr. Choat served as Assistant Professor of Optometry and Chief Compliance Officer at the University of the Incarnate Word School of Optometry in San Antonio, Texas where he taught courses on medical law, vision rehabilitation, neuroanatomy, and ocular motility.  He also spent 10 years in private practice focused on low vision rehabilitation.

Dr. Carlos Ruiz

Dr. Ruiz Vega is a Dallas native and a National Health Service Corp Scholar. He completed his undergraduate degree at Southern Methodist University and later obtained his Doctor in Dental Surgery at Texas A&M College of Dentistry. His passion for community health led him to further develop his competence in pediatric dental care by completing a Fellowship in Compromised Care and Hospital Dentistry at Texas A&M. He also holds a position as an Adjunct Volunteer Faculty at Texas A&M School of Dentistry under the Pediatric Dental department. Dr. Ruiz Vega’s mission is to provide the finest quality dentistry to underserved communities. Professional memberships include the American Dental Association, American Academy of Pediatric Dentistry, and Special Care Dentistry Association.

Dr. Yasmin Sharif

Dr. Yasmin Sharif received a Bachelor of Science degree in Biology from Montclair State University in New Jersey. She then received her medical degree from the American University of Antigua in Antigua and Barbuda. Afterwards, she completed residency in Family Medicine at Hunter Medical Center in Flemington, New Jersey.

She is licensed by the Texas Medical Board and is certified by the American Board of Family Medicine. Dr. Sharif enjoys exercising, traveling and event planning.

Dr. Steven Hoffman

Dr. Steven Hoffman is a native of Dallas/Ft. Worth and received a Bachelor of Science degree in Biomedical Science from Texas A&M University in College Station, TX. He received his Doctor of Podiatric Medicine from Dr. Scholl’s School of Podiatry in Chicago, IL.

He completed his residency in Podiatric Medicine and Surgery Residency with the added credential in Reconstructive Rearfoot/Ankle Surgery (PMSR/RRA) while working at Southern Arizona VA. He is licensed to practice Podiatric medicine in Texas. Dr. Hoffman enjoys time with his family, woodworking and competing in triathlon races.

Dr. Eduardo Torres

Dr. Eduardo Torres was born in Puerto Rico. He graduated from Medical School and completed his OBGYN training at the University of Puerto Rico in 2001 and 2005 respectively. He moved to the United States in 2005 and worked in Virginia for 8 years and then in Tyler Texas for 6 years. Dr. Torres joined Los Barrios in Sept 2019.

He is fluent in Spanish and has a special interest in managing normal and complicated pregnancies.

Dr. Torres is board certified by the American Board of Obstetrics and Gynecology since 2006 and is a Fellow of the American College of Obstetrician and Gynecologists.

Silvia Urueta, WHNP

Silvia Urueta is a Women’s Health Nurse Practitioner and has been providing prenatal care at Los Barrios Unidos for over 16 years. She received her Bachelor of Science in Nursing degree from the University of Texas at El Paso and her Master of Science in Nursing degree from the University of Texas in Arlington.

She is a member of the National Association of Nurse Practitioners in Women’s Health, is certified by the National Certification Corporation, and is licensed by the Texas Board of Nurse Examiners.
